Golf Clash
Honest gameplay, a loot box disclosure you could not read
A different kind of misleading. Nothing wrong with the gameplay footage here. The ad showed the game as it is. What it hid was the money.
What the ad did. A paid Facebook ad in March 2024 carried the line about optional in-game purchases including random items, then made it disappear.
Why it failed. The ASA upheld the complaint in July 2024. The text was light grey over rapidly changing brightly coloured gameplay clips, it was small, and it lasted about two seconds. Not clearly presented meant not disclosed, and the presence of loot boxes is material information, especially for vulnerable consumers.
The complainant. An academic researcher in game regulation, the same person behind several other rulings in this group. One determined individual has produced more enforcement here than the entire player community.
